Senator Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, was on Thursday, March 19, elected as spokesperson of the National Consultative Forum of Political Organisations (NFPO).
He was elected during the NFPO’s general assembly. Eugenie Neema Ingabire of the Union Démocratique du Peuple Rwandais (UDPR) was elected as deputy spokesperson.
They were elected alongside a new bureau composed of seven commissioners, who will oversee the Forum’s three commissions, and the Executive Secretary for a six-month term.
Habineza replaces MP Alice Muzana of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), who had served as spokesperson since September 18 last year. Ingabire replaces Dieudonne Nsengiyumva of the Centrist Democratic Party for Progress and Concord (PPC).
In his new role, Habineza will coordinate the activities of the 11-party forum.
His responsibilities include presiding over general meetings and supervising the forum’s day-to-day operations, including its leadership academy, which prepares young people for participation in the political landscape.
Sworn in as a senator in last October, Habineza assumed the position unopposed after being proposed by his peers.
“I thank you for placing your trust in me, as you did recently when you nominated me to represent you in the Senate. We will work together to deliver on the Forum’s vision,” he said upon taking up the role,” Habineza said in his acceptance speech.
According to the forum’s guidelines, the positions of spokesperson and deputy spokesperson must be held by members of different political parties and ensure gender balance, with one male and one female.
The newly elected team also commended the outgoing leadership for its service and commitment in steering the Forum’s activities.
