The Nigerian national team coach, Eric Chelle, has praised Rwanda highly following Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium. Chelle called Rwanda the cleanest country in Africa and even said it is cleaner than France, where he lives.
During the meeting with the press after the match, he admired Rwanda’s beauty, cleanliness, hospitality, and the warm welcome the Nigerian team received during their visit. The coach also expressed his desire to return to Rwanda in the future.
“I don’t understand why, because I live in France, and I can see that Rwanda is cleaner than France. I know Rwanda because of its brand (RwandaAir), and I would love to return.” He said
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong also complimented Rwanda, describing the Amahoro Stadium as the best stadium he has seen in Africa. He encouraged other African nations to follow Rwanda’s example in terms of sports facilities and hospitality, emphasizing that Rwanda has set a high standard on the continent.
“This is my second time in Rwanda; the first time was great. When I walked into the stadium, I thought this is the best stadium I’ve seen in Africa.” He said
“It’s a big compliment to what’s been done here, the facilities. Rwanda has set the standard for how things should be in Africa, and this is something we need to unite on as a continent. Rwanda has set a great example.” Super Eagles Captain says
Chelle acknowledged the difficulty of the match and praised his players for their performance despite having only a few days and limited training sessions together. The victory was boosted by two goals from Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, helping revive Nigeria’s hopes for World Cup qualification.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reaffirmed its full support for the team, having ensured all logistics and services were in place, and encouraged the players to aim for maximum points in their upcoming matches. Overall, the praise for Rwanda’s environment and hospitality alongside Nigeria’s success highlights a positive sporting and cultural exchange between the two nations.
