BPR Bank Rwanda Plc, in partnership with Volkswagen Motor Company, Rwanda Branch (Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda), has launched a program to make it easier for women to own their cars at very low interest rates without requiring collateral beyond their means.
This program was created for all women in general who want to own their own cars, where they will pay 10% of the car’s value and receive the rest from the bank as a loan, where the collateral is your car provided by Volkswagen.
This program was officially launched on March 31, 2026, with the signing of a partnership agreement between BPR Bank Rwanda Plc and Volkswagen.
This activity was carried out through the BPR Ikamba program, a program that supports women in development-oriented programs.
At the beginning, BPR Ikamba crowned two women who are employees of Move, where they received cars on a very small loan to be paid off over five years.
One of the women who received this car said that she had been thinking about buying a car for three years, but with limited resources, she was now about to embark on the path of development.
He said, “I had been holding onto this desire for three years. I was just trying to save up some money because these cars are expensive.”
The CEO of BPR Bank Rwanda Plc, Patience Mutesi, stressed that women’s empowerment plays a significant role in the overall development of the country because the money earned is returned to society.
He said, “There is a study that has shown that 90% of the money a woman earns goes back to the community. It goes to educating children, and it goes into activities that increase the benefits of the country.”
He added, “A man who helps a woman earn money is a country that benefits.”
The Director of Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda, Serge Kamuhinda, said that they have a goal of having at least 30% of employees in all levels be women, which will be achieved through a program they launched in partnership with BPR Bank Rwanda Plc.
He said, “We have a goal in move that 30% of the people we work with at all levels from drivers to those working in other services are women. When you get to our office I think we are going to achieve it but on the road it is still difficult, but we are confident that we will achieve it because of the action we started today.”
