Police VC men’s team and APR WVC women’s team started the finals of the First Division Volleyball Championship on a high note, winning the first of five matches that will determine the teams that will win the trophy.
The final matches began on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Petit Stade in Remera, after the conclusion of the semi-finals, where the teams that played in it had to win three out of five possible matches.
Police VC lost in the final match to APR last year, this time they performed well in the group, defeating REG VC in the first match by 3-0 sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-23), while APR WVC defeated Kepler WVC by 3-0 sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-21), in both matches watched by the Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire.
Police VC built their game by preventing Nicholas Matue from winning and it paid off when they won the first set by 25-18, while the introduction of Matui Nicolas who partnered Gisubizo Merci gave more strength to REG’s side who lost the second set by 25-21.
A defeat to Sam Engwau in the third set, on the side of REG VC, made their day even worse, and gave Police VC the strength to win 25-23 and take home their first victory.
In the previous match, APR WVC started its women’s matches well, defeating Kepler WVC, who are playing in the finals for the first time, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-21).
In the third place match, Kepler VC defeated Gisagara VC 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-15) in the men’s match while Police WVC, the latest champion, defeated Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) in the women’s match.
The finals will continue on Saturday, April 4, 2026, with a second leg for all teams. In this round, teams will compete to win three out of five possible games.
