ABU DHABI / KIGALI – The Government of Rwanda has activated an emergency repatriation plan for its citizens in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, as a massive military confrontation between Iran, Israel, and the United States continues to destabilize the Gulf region.
The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Abu Dhabi issued an official notice on March 6, 2026, confirming that it is now coordinating with the national carrier, RwandAir, to arrange flights for those wishing to return home.
The move comes after a week of unprecedented volatility in the Middle East. Following coordinated strikes by US and Israeli forces on Iranian targets starting late February, Iran has launched retaliatory missile and drone barrages across the region.
• Impact on UAE & Bahrain: Both countries have intercepted multiple projectiles over the past few days.
• Current Safety: The Embassy has reassured the public that “no Rwandan national has been harmed at the moment,” but emphasized that the situation remains “evolving” and unpredictable.
The Embassy is urging all Rwandans in the affected areas to:
1. Register Immediately: Contact the Embassy to be included in the repatriation manifest.
2. Follow Local Law: Abide by all safety instructions and shelter orders issued by UAE and Bahraini authorities.
3. Stay Connected: Monitor official channels for flight schedules and assembly points.
