President Paul Kagame on Friday 6 March 2026 received 20 new envoys who presented their letters of credence during an official ceremony held at Village Urugwiro in Kigali.
The envoys include Ambassadors and High Commissioners, officially accredited to represent their countries in Rwanda and strengthen diplomatic cooperation with Kigali.
The diplomats represent a wide range of nations including Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Ireland, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Mali, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Georgia, Slovakia, Malta, Tunisia, Dominican Republic, Hungary and The Gambia among others.
Presenting credentials formally marks the beginning of a diplomat’s mission in Rwanda and allows them to officially represent their governments while working to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, development and diplomacy.
Later the same day, President Kagame addressed members of the diplomatic corps during a dinner in Kigali where he spoke about regional peace efforts, particularly the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“By definition, a signed peace agreement should bind all parties equally,” President Kagame told the diplomats, stressing that durable peace requires balanced responsibility from all sides involved.
He added that if ongoing agreements are fully implemented, they could provide the security guarantees needed for all countries in the region.
The presentation of credentials by 20 envoys in one day reflects Rwanda’s expanding diplomatic engagement and growing international partnerships as Kigali continues to strengthen its global ties.
